In this course we will be diving into the expansive world of 3D art and design using

Blender, a free and open-source 3D computer graphics software toolset used for creating animated films, visual effects, art, architectural visualizations, 3D printed objects, motion graphics, interactive 3D applications, virtual reality, and computer games.

Throughout this three-session course you will learn the basics of 3D modeling including hard surface modeling, sculpting and basic retopology. You will use these skills to design and create your own custom picture frame. The skills taught are the foundation of all digital 3D design and open the door to exploring topics such as character creation, architectural visualization, and product design.

Learning Goals:

  • Effectively navigate 3D space in Blender 3D software
  • Create and edit shapes in object, edit, and sculpt mode
  • Use modifiers to create models more effectively
  • Successfully translate a 2D design into 3D

About your instructor: Sol Manuel Garza is a Middlebury College senior who has been involved with the Middlebury College Animation Studio for four years. He has worked on several of the studio's 3D animated short film productions. His primary areas of focus are prop, environment, and character design.
